Splice (2009)

Didn't this come out a few years ago and was called Species?

Now with that being said it does share some similar ideas
with the above mentioned film, Instead of using of using
alien DNA they use some kind of animal DNA I think it was
maybe some type of reptile where the creature (who becomes
know as Dren) seems to move in almost a lizard like fashion
I would think.
Anyway to start off I am an enjoyer of logos when I watch anything
a nice logo says alot about people and the one for Copper Heart was
pretty nice. The opening title sequence was pretty cool it in
a way reminded me of Hollow Man. That is what I would people
consider this a cross between Hallow Man and Species
where they are working with cloning instead of invisibility
I found this to be a classic story where scientists
(played by Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) create a creature
who eventually gets out of control and people are all
"What has Science done?!?" and they are forced to face down
the creation and stop it.
A couple of things made me snicker while watching this
one being where they work which is called N.E.R.D
(which stands for Nucleic Exchange Research & Development)
but seriously, Nerd? they couldn't come up with something
better then nerd? also that is where the creature get its
name Dren is just Nerd slept backwards.
One of the other thing that kind of made me snicker is
the slug creatures that are used in the movie looked
like Penises! am I the only one who thought that?
take a close look at the creatures (refereed to as Fred and Ginger)
and you well notice that they look like a large penis.
a few other things is you would think they would understand
The whole thing with keeping it confined that they would know
that the creature would have basically human curiosity
being that it was part human and is willing to lean and want to
explore and that it would develop some type of verbal skills
but doesn't actually talk until the last few minutes of the film.
There was a interesting almost role reversal in this as well
where the guy wants nothing to do with the creature but
the woman becomes attached to the creature and treats her like
a daughter until it attacks her and knocks her down. Then
it changes she is more of the aggressor and shows anger toward
the creature and the guy becomes more attached and begins to
show affection towards the creature going so far as to have
sex with it.
All in all this wasn't a bad movie the effects both
visual and practical as well as make-up were pretty good
there was some slight nudity in it and the ending
leaves it open to a sequel (think kind of what happened
in the fly and where the Fly II started)
but like I said it wasn't bad it does have a bit of a
flare of originality but at the same time you feel like you
seen it before.
