Captain America (1990)

In antisapation of going to see Captain America: The First Avenger.
I thought I would sit down and watch the original Captain America Movie.

I know what you are thinking right now, "What are you talking about?
there was never a Captain America movie.." sure there was and as you can
see to the left that is the actual case for it. Yes there has been a Captain America before this came out in 1990 and here is a link to the actual movie poster! Movie Poster! Now I would have to say I have view this movie
many times and I think it is great for the time it was made.
It stars Matt Salinger as Captain America and Scott Paulin as The Red Skull
Now I thought and have always thought that the make-up effects used in this were quite excellent for the very early 90s to pull this off.
Long before what we can do now with digital technology.
I also thought the the costume that was used in this for Captain America looked pretty close to what was see in the comics at the time.
Here is a picture for what both characters looked like in the 90s Film:

True it doesn't or didn't have the coolness that the new film will have and like I said it was
great for the time it was made. There were some nice action scenes and a pretty good story.
The main story quickly hits on the key points of the two characters origins.
Sadly this doesn't take things slow and explain alot of Where Captain America
gets the shield and the uniform. It runs under the assumption that you already know this
which is something I'm looking forward to in the new Film as you can see from the trailers
they show all this which is good. With this movie you do expect more from it but
you don't get what your expecting. Also yes the characters look like their comic counter
parts but only for a short time. The actor only wears the "Red Skull make-up" for about
5 mins or so which is disappointing, becasue after he sends Cap to an icy grave he gets
plastic surgery and looks like a regular guy throughout the rest of the film and is played off as
some type of second rate Lex Luthor/Wilson Fisk.
Also Captain America himself spends more screen time out of the suit then in it.
I hope these things are not the same in the Newer movie you want to see Captain America and
the Red Skull not Steve Rodgers and second rate villain with plastic surgery.

But like I said I can't truly complain becasue back in 1990 Super Hero movies like we
have today were just a dream... One thing I was wondering about the new film is now that they
are linking all the films together (like they should be, being all these characters live in the same
space and see each other regularly) Is how they are going to explain why Johnny Storm
aka the Human Torch and Steve Rodgers aka Captain America look identical!
(being that both were played by Chris Evans) Which is funny in itself
Because in this film they mention the character of the Human Torch which Evans played
in Fantastic Four and this is a movie about a character he ends up portraying as well.

Now like I have said in the prelude to Thor I mentioned that Chris Hemsworth was
not the first to play Thor and the same goes for Chris Evans as well as Matt Salinger
when it comes to Captain America there was this guy!

Yes that is actually Captain America from the 70s TV Movies.
he was played by Reb Brown And surprising enough he wasn't the first either
The very first Captain America was actually This guy!

The Very first Captain America was Dick Purcell
from the 1940 serials , Now true Chris Evans is going to go down in history
as Captain America but like the many who played Batman over the years
there have been many who have been Captain America.

In closing I'm going to leave you with the trailer for the 1990 Captain America
Captain America!

Mothman (2010)

For those of you not familiar with the legend of the "Mothman" you should go here
first http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothman

Now this was one of those made for TV movies.
now this was a pretty good watch, but it didn't really have alot of
facts about the actual events I think this was more fictionalized
"lets make a fun/spooky movie" type of thing and adds in some thing
that have nothing to do with the actual legend of the creature.

Now i felt this movie was very similar to the Jennifer Love Hewitt
spooker "I Know what you did Last Summer" which in my view is
a very good movie.. sadly this one was not as good.

The reason I said it was similar was the plot was
it was like they took pretty much the beginning of "I know what you did"
and changed it around to fit their film.

The movie had a pretty good start but you can see the similarity
in the first few scenes. A group of kids are partying and through
their "fun" they "accidentally" kill one of the main characters brother.
and then they go on and do the cover up..
I felt they ripped this scene right from "I know what you did"
after they "accidentally" kill the brother they have the whole
scene were the group of friends make a pact to never speak of this again
there is some resistance from Katharine (who is similar to
Jennifer Love Hewitt's character in "I know what you did")
but they eventually convince her to go along with this.

I sitting there thinking these people are crazy! and I can't
believe that this guys brother is so cold hearted to go along
with this..You just killed your brother and you fine with just
disposing of the body?!? this is your brother what are you
going to tell your parents when they ask where he is?
I'm all what? but the story goes on..

Katharine moves away and starts her own life
and is a reporter for some TV station and comes back to
town to cover the Mothman festival and meets up with
her one time friends. Who are now living shitty lives

Her one time boyfriend invites her to a get together
of the group that they have every year.
Now this get together is disturbing in itself as the group
gets together to to celebrate the anniversary of the day they
killed someone!! yes that is true! Also Katharine's one time
friends give her a hard time for moving away and becoming
successful..

Now Katharine's return home not only reconnects her
with the town and her one time friends but triggers the
Mothman attacks. Because this film the Mothman
is portrayed as some type of Spirit of Vengeance who comes
and avenges those who were killed in the same manner the
guys brother was.
Why did it wait all this time to do this? apparently all the
guilty parties have to be president in the general area that
this crime took place and when Katharine moved away
Vengeance could not be served. Basically in this
movie the Mothman is turned into a second rate
Ghost Rider and it goes on and begins to pick off
the Teens one by one and there is the race agsint time
to stop it.

Like I said it wasn't a bad movie it was filled the time
even though the acting was kind of bad at times
and the effects were pretty good for this. Give it a watch if you
are curious but if you want to see a amazingly good movie
about the Mothman then Watch The Mothman Prophecies

Milf (2010)

Oh those wacky bastards over at The Asylum are at it again.
Now I have said that alot of the time their comedy & Thriller
movies are usually alot better then their Sci-Fi/Action films
but I don't really think this one is truly that case.

They basically took the "Stifler's Mom" idea from
American Pie and made it in to and entire movie. Here is the
plot according to IMBd:
"A group of nerdy college guys who can't seem to
connect with girls their own age
discover the
excitement of hooking up with sexy older women."
that's it simple as that.

Now it did have a few humorous scenes, such as the whole how
shall we say the whole "Jerk off/cum shot" scene was some what funny, the wacky dream
sequences and the whole underwater fight scene! was...different.

Also some of the acting was off and seemed a bit weird at times the character of
Anthony was somewhat funny but for some reason came off as gay in a way
I don't know why but that is how I seen it, also the guy with the English/British
accident (I forget which he was) also was somewhat funny.

There is also another character that comes off as a second rate "Stifler " which
was pretty stupid I can see that conversation for motivation:
Actor: Who is my character what is his
motivation?
Director: Did you ever see American Pie?
Actor: yes
Director: you're basically our version of Steve Stifler
Actor: Oh ok, I gotcha!
This movie even though it has some funny scenes, it is far from being funny
I found alot of the movie just a bit eyebrow raising weird and other parts
just simply awkward.. One of the pest things about this movie was the
nudity! but I wouldn't recomend watching this just for that.

Gladiatress (2004)

I thought I would give this movie a chance from the case art which isn't much.
but something just said watch me in it. To sum up this movie in a few words it is basically Ridley Scott & Russell Crowe's Gladiator done in the style of
Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

The story is basically about 3 sisters and the quest
to save there village and also for the youngest and
looked down upon sister who is ironically named
"
Worthaboutapig" to find her dream husband. When Caesar
continues his push in to conquering Britain one little village stands
in their way and the village elders send the bumbling but well meaning
"
Worthaboutapig" off on a grand quest to find the Eldest
sister who is a brave and noble warrior. She is later joined by the middle
sister as they recruit the eldest and bring her home.

I would have to say this movie was funny, It truly made me smile at many times
and I would have to say I did get a great laugh out of the whole thing.
the writing was very good and very funny. The music was great and the use
of cartoonish sound effects added to the humor of this film.

There were many great scenes in this that should have you laughing. its
one of those films that is silly but at the same time plays it off as being serious
while watching this I would thinking that the character of "Worthaboutapig"
which is played by Sally Phillips and who is probaby the best character in this
whole film, started to remind me of another character Anna Faris' Cindy Campbell
from the Scary Movie series. I was thinking that Cindy Campbell was probably
one "Worthaboutapig"s descendents being that they came off a somewhat similar
they probably share a branch on the family tree..

but all in all I would have to say this was a pretty good movie I did enjoy it alot
and thought it was rather well done and was alot of fun, So if your looking for a
few laughs and like films like Gladiator, Robin Hood: Men in Tights and
Scary Movie I would give this a watch.
