This was was a very powerful and amazing and heart felt film. Probably one of the best I have see this year.
It tackles a subject that I am very familiar with... Bullying. Which I think is a horrible thing being that I was bullied for the majority of my trip through school from elementary through High School.
but when I was going to school it didn't have anything like this metal detectors, armed security force , bag checks, ect. from what I know we had one security guard by the time I was in the 11th Grade and that was it.
I think i seen this school before in other things but not sure it was very familiar and the "play" portion of the plot somewhat reminded me of the movie Hamlet 2.
Speaking of the play I thought the parents and the general townspeople were really harsh about the play and the students putting it on, a little more harsh then need be but it is funny near the end that the play no one wanted to go into production every one shows up for in the end.
I found the acting in this was superb amazingly superb especially the film teacher. He is a great man who sticks by this principals and doesn't let anyone get in his way of spreading this message.
the other member of the cast were excellent in their roles.
The scene where they are all sitting around watching the videos of the kids day to day life at school
I couldn't help but sympathize with the character of ( Trevor I think) Because that is what it is like being bullied I know I lived it personally. Now I didn't go to the extremes these boys did I found my own way
out and I always thought to myself let them be assclowns becasue they don't matter they are not even worth my time to get upset over (even though I did) but I thought go get my work done, pass my classes and once I finished I'll never see these jerks again and true enough that is what happened I moved on and started chasing my dreams and from what I'm told my bullies are doing nothing other then living at home and mooching off there parents, becasue being the "cool guy" in high school doesn't really translate well to the real world.
I also enjoyed watching the faces of the people as they watch the videos especially the principal where she gets to see what is really going on in her school and see how well her "zero tolerance policy " really works it usually takes looking through someone else eyes to see what is really going on.
and finally the whole scenes in the woods and and the plot against the school seem like they were inspired my the Columbine incident but this one had a more favorable out cum.
Now in the end this movie is a wonderful sharp unflinching look at a very serious topic and should be view by many and bullying should be stopped and no its not "boys will be boy" its not " the way things are, human nature or the social pecking order" it is a very painful, and in some cases fatal for of torcher that is either verbal or physical that is carried out on another person through fear and intimidation.
the question is simple "would you want to be bulled?"
if the answer is no you have to stand up and speak up for those who can not or will not.
anyway watch the move.
