The Puppet Master Series!

Well here it is the entire Puppet Master Series
if I known what type of undertaking this was going to be
I probably wouldn't have done it the way that I did.
being the way I did it held everything else up.
Also If I never watch another Puppet Master movie ever
again it will be to soon.

Now the way that this was done Is I watched
each movie individually then wrote up a few things
about it before starting the next one.
I did not watch them all then write later on.
I watched Part 1 then reviewed it before
starting Part 2.
what I should have done was typed up my thoughts
instead of writing them out that was my biggest
mistake in doing this..
anyway I watched them in order in which they
were presented 1, 2, 3, ect.
anyway here you go..

Puppet Master (1989)

Now I remember watching Toy Story 1 for the first time
thinking it was the most frighting movie of all time
probably becasue I'm surrounded by Action Figures
so this movie would be nothing really.

Now the opening titles were interesting the
music kind of reminded me of a carnival side show
it was a very good feel.

with the first movie I was surprised to see it was made in 89
I thought this was from early 80s maybe 81?

the start of the film there is not really any explanation
the old puppeteer is reminded me of the older guys who fixes
Woody in Toy story 2. I was wondering was he a magician
or have some type of magical powers?
then he shoots himself? presumably becasue the "men in black"
wants his secret? who are these "men in black" anyway?

I did like the puppet POV but there is one running about
in the lobby and no one noticed it until he get upstairs
and some fat woman does.

The basic story is Neil has found the old puppet masters
puppets but apparently died mysteriously so his friends
a group of psychics led my a professor named Alex
come to investigate what has happened and are greeted
by Neil's wife and soon there after they are set upon by the
puppets.

Some of the dream sequences in this are weird much the the puppets
themselves especially the female one that seems to puke up
leaches.

the one thing that kinda through me off what there was no real
reaction to the puppets other then that one scene at the first
of the movie. The movie is kind of slow after the first 45mins
it picks up speed and just barrels along and the deaths by
puppets come really fast like I said
when they start killing people there is not reaction to the puppets
i was expecting more of a "omg what is it!" but there is none its
all very serious.

at the end of the film it has a very happy end Alex and the
woman who was running the hotel survive the puppet attack
and Alex leaves happy and she is left alone and in charge of
the puppets. it had an alright ending it seemed like a pretty
stand alone movie but of course along came...

Puppet Master II (1991)

The opening music was good it was the same as the first but the
opening titles were kind of boring it was just a black background

this second one was pretty much similar in a why to the first it
featured paranormal investigators instead of psychics.
(I guess being that the investigators are more current then
psychics) anyway the Hotel is shut down and remains abanoned
being that the woman who was running it died in a rather
horrible grizzly death. Now I don't know if the puppets
killed her but as it is explains in the first that the
puppets share the personality of the person who controls
them so the lady who was left in charge seemed nice I don't
see the puppets killing her? also it is mentioned that
apparently Alex who left at the end of the first
in good spirits has gone totally bat shit crazy!
and is locked up in a mental institution?

the basic story of this film is the group of investigators
come to the hotel to check on the strange goings on and
get more then what they bargained for. Also the puppets
seem to bring the puppet mast back to life with the
use of some type of green fluid that give the puppets
life. This marks the introduction of the green liquid
which is not even mention in the first film.
The newly brought back to life Puppet Master sets out on
a Nefarious scheme to turn himself in to an immortal puppet
and bring his wife back to life so she can be a puppet also
but of course nothing truly goes to plan.

One of the things I thought was odd was there seemed to be
a scene missing in this. There is a scene of a physic making here
way to the hotel and she gets lost and stops to ask for directions
then the next scene she is at the hotel sipping a martini or something
with no mention of how she arrived or that she was lost I thought
there should be a connecting scene of her arriving and being all
"so I had gotten lost on the way" you know one of those scenes
that fills in.
Another odd thing was the "death" of the female puppet as she
is burned in a old time coal stove by the hick neighbors
of the hotel.

Now a few things that I liked about this movie is that the puppet
animation continues to grow and look more realistic in this second
chapter also there was a better reaction to the puppets where
the people have that "Oh shit! what is that!" moment.
the make-up effects were pretty good also and there were some
nice tits in this as well lol.
but this was a pretty good follow up to the first film I would
consider it the Evil Dead II of the series.

Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge (1991)

Again this isn't that long of a movie much like the others it like
an hour to an hour and 20mins.
The music in the opening credits is the same which is good it suits
the series but the opening credits are the same as 2 they are just
black screen with text.

This movie goes back in time it follows the story of the Puppet Master
from the first film when he was younger (as seen in the Flashback in
part II) It takes play during Wold War II as the Nazis try to
create some type of zombie solider.
Basically they want to reanimate there dead solider and make them into
a type of puppet (get it, lol) and that brings a brilliant puppet master by
the name of Toulon to the Nazis attention becasue he seems to have the
ability to animate inanimate objects.

this continues on the idea that the puppets need injections of the green goo
to live but that doesn't really explain how they could be locked up in a
trunk for 40 years and then be up and running around I guess it is to be
assumed that when they were found in the first one they were injected
but anyway..

The Nazis troops are lead by a very evil man by the name of clouse
and he is pretty much the reason for the Puppet master sending out
the puppets to get his revenge for Krauss killed the Puppet masters
wife when he came to take the green liquid from him. the scene
with her death Krauss refers to her as a "Jew" which I was thinking
who does he know she is a "Jew"? but I guess being a Nazi in his
eyes everyone is a "Jew"
The sequence after that where they are taking Toulon away to the
Nazis base he sicks the drill headed one on one of the Naziss and
he drills right through his stomach which was kind of cool
so was the death of Krauss himself once Toulon gets his revenge.
You notice the puppet effects growing and becoming more fluid and realistic
and the puppets even begin to show emotion!! and are also vocal in this
they grunt and sigh and make all kind of little noises.
also there is a scene during Toulons getting his revenge
where he uses the cowboy puppet and the thing climbs the outside wall of a
building it was I would have to say an impressive effect for the time.

I felt this chapter answered alot of the questions I had
becasue it shows where the black coated skull puppet came from and way
he is so vicious as well as You find out the background of the puppets and
learn that they were once real people at one time.
where the female puppet came from and why it has the ability to puke leaches.
and showed why the men in black coats were after the Puppet master
in the first film and the tragedy that befell him.
at the end of the movie the scene in train station was
funny I don't think it was meant to be but it was
also I thought this one had more nudity then previous.
at the end I thought this was a great film and left me satisfied.

Puppet Master IV: The Demon (1993)

We go Back to the Future in this new chapter of the Puppet Master Saga!
and as a side note this is where everything continuity wise starts to get
totally messed up...

Gone is the familiar theme of the passed 3 movies and is replaced with something
more foreboding and sinister. The opening credits are a little more interesting this
time with some scenes of the previous films.

your basic story in this is as follows the hotel is no longer deserted and is
now owned by a young scientist by the name of Rick Myers and he and his colleagues
in other areas are working on Some type of A.I. Robotics project trying to duplicate
pretty much what the puppets can do. During this this girlfriend comes to spend
the weekend and invited a friend of hers who in turn is dating the rival of Rick
go goes by the name of Cameron. Meanwhile..
an actual race of demonic puppet people/creatures known as totems that
live in some underworld type of place set out to kill all who tries who apparently
are trying to lean the secret that was stolen from then by Toulon and a
climatic battle takes place using the "unfinished puppet" that is apparently
powered by the spirit of Toulon himself...

I was a bit lost in this one what did this have in common with the previous 3?
so does it take place after 2? how did they get back to the hotel and
back into the trunk and be locked away for like 45 years (from the beginning of the
first one to this one) when we clearing see them go on a road trip at the end of 2 ?

also being that the Totem creatures are arctual demom things does that mean
the little green guy from the flashbacks of 2&3 is also a demon?

they also bring back the psychic angle with a girl by the name of Loren
who is exceedingly attractive! but a shame that she is Cameron's girlfriend
becasue he is a total douchebag. there is a scene where Rick is showing
them where he is working and Cameron tries to get into the computer system
where he is shut out and tries to weasel his way into to probably steal
ideas and claim them as his own but I wouldn't Cameron that
dick anything and just to show how much of a idiot he is when the totem
creatures start attacking he tries to make a run for it and pull Loren along
they head out in the driving rain but can't get the car going so
he is also an asshole for making Loren get out and push the car!
who does that? a little thing like her is not going to
be able to push that car! but luckily a totem creature jumps up and
bites his crotch! and then continues on to kill him
all I can say is it serves him right for being an ass.

Now in this one they are officially given names
the Black suited on is called Blade, the cowboy six shooter
then Tunneler and pinhead is the burly one.
Now after the other puppets are found (apparently Blade was fee to
wonder the hotel for 45 years) all the others had to be injected
with the green stuff to bring them to life which brings up the
question Why do the other puppets need green stuff injections and not Blade?
as for the puppets they are back to being good hearted and somewhat humorous
hero types now I thought The totem creature animation was very good but I
don't think the puppet animations was as good as in 3
there were some scenes before that final battle where there was this
ghost of Toulon lurking around and it seemed to be communicating to
the blade puppet being that he was nodding alot these were pretty
cool scenes but in the end after the totems were defeated
the spirit of Toulon passes the torch and Rick
becomes the one true puppet master and must use his powers for good.

Puppet Master V: The Final Chapter. (1994)

If only that title spoke the truth..

Well there was the return of the original theme music in this
but sadly it was the plan black background.

They did an entire recap of the 4 movie kind of like a
"Previously on Puppet Master.." the recap was kind of long
it was like 20mins! that is a little long for some recap/flashback
I mean this films run time was about an hour and 20mins and the
20 minutes was eaten up by a flashback of the previous film
you could have done a good one during the opening credits
which they should have did.

Now basically Rick has been arrested for the murders of his
colleagues and the asshole Cameron basically he is blamed for
everything the totem creatures did in part 4. But of course
the cops don't believe him and call in Rick's boss who is of
course a greedy business man Rick explains all he knows about
the puppets. After hearing this Rick's boss as well as some
goons he hired head to the hotel to capture the puppets for his
own nefarious plans.

Blank is released on bail and he as well as The puppet blade
return to the hotel to collect the others. Meanwhile...
in their Underworld place the Head Totem not pleased with
failure to get back what was apparently stolen, brings forth
this ultimate totem creature!
Now the funny thing about this is that the Head Totem
sounds so perverse when he talks. while bring to life
his ultimate weapon he is saying things like
"Oh yes!, feel my power filling you!, throbbing inside you!" &
"giving it to you, there is now a part of me
in you" I had to laugh I was all what the hell?!?

So in the end the puppets and totems take out everyone
then the puppets take out the totems once and for all with
the help of Blank and the "unfinished puppet" powered by
the spirit of Toulon and it is the end.

the animation was the same as 4 the whole movie itself was
pretty lame the Directing and camera work was kind of shoty
and of course there seemed to be quite a few 90's references.
personally the movie wasn't that good but ok i was happy when it
was over.

You thought that was the end? yeah that's not going to happen
because wait...there's more!

Puppet Master VI: Curse of the Puppet Master. (1998)

I'm going to say it right out first it was probably one of the
worst of the series. like what the hell man it didn't make
any sense. also it must have had the worst ending of all of them.
it was overly predictable.
very little effects to hardly none there were no puppet animations
if the things had to walk in camera it was like they were using
actual puppets someone would put the thing on a stick and bob it
up and down. Also if the puppets had to move their arms
or run anywhere it was taken from the previous films!
you would be in a open field and the puppet Blade had to attack u
he would be lunging at you from in a darkened hallway?!?
where is this hallway in this open field? oh were to cheap and lazy
we'll just take the scene from Puppet Master 1 and edit it in
it won't make sense but it doesn't have to!

talking about cheap and lazy film making you can noticed the errors
while watching this they are so blatant its not funny like boom mics
dipping down into the shot and this is the shot they use for the movie
what the hell man!!

Also what is up the weather where this takes place every night seems to
be a heavy thunder and lighting storm.

well just like the movie not making sense you don't need any continuity
either being that leech woman was destroyed in part 2 but she appears
in this one. The one good thing is the familiar theme song is still in use
and for the first time since the first film the opening credits were actually
interesting as they show various scenes from the previous movies.

Again I don't know what is going on in this you see the puppets in cages
and they are owned by this old guy who is apparently from what I can tell
is independently wealthy who lives with his attractive yet seemingly promiscuous
yet innocent daughter who hires a from what I can tell mentally challenged boy
who goes by the name of Tank. The reason the old hires Tank is becasue
of his proficiency in carving and whittling and wants him to create the
ultimate puppet and by doing so turn Tank into that puppet.
while watching this I was wondering who are these people? and where
is Rick and his girlfriend from 4 & 5?
in the end The old guy achieves his goal not before his daughter who
exudes sexuality seduces Tank and sexes him up good!
but after Tank is turned into a puppet he kills the old man and movie stops.
there is no ending it just stops and credits roll.

Puppet Master Part VII - Retro Puppet Master! (1999)

We go back in time again to the 40s just before Toulon makes his way to
America. it takes place in I guess a series of Flashbacks d
where on a cold night hiding from the Nazis Toulon tells the
puppets the story of how he acquired this powers and how the puppets
came into being.

The original opening song was not used in this one either
it is actually replaced with something a little more boisterous
but I would have to say it did have a nice opening credits sequence.

So while watching this I was thinking does this take place after
part 3 becasue it feels like it does and if so where is the
young apprentice the boy peter that he took under this wing at
the end of 3?

Anyway in the Main part of the movie it shows Toulon in his
20s as he is a young puppet master with his friends who put on a
show and are touring this also show how he meets his wife.

the one thing that bugged me is that the young Toulon has a
french accent and the older one doesn't.
Also why do they always portray Egypt in a blue filter
in all the puppet master movies? personally I would
probably you a orange one myself it would make more sense I think

anyway alot of the "origin" story that is shown in this
contridicts what was told in the previous films which
is not surprising to me when it come to this series.

All the stuff that had to do with "the mummies" was pretty
funny. But I would have to say that with this film
it wasn't bad it was surely way better then the previous
one. I thought the acting was quite good and the visual
effects were actually pleasing, especially the puppet
effects and animation there were actually some in this
that was original. and was almost on par with the first couple
of films which was very good in my view.
Also the the I guess you would call them the "retro" puppets
had a great look to them they were actually more frighting and
scary looking then the original ones.

All around this wasn't a bad movie and I actually enjoyed
it quite a bit.

Puppet Master Part VIII - The Legacy (2003)

Now after being treated to the pretty good movie
in Part 7 we are give this piece of garbage. its basically
a "clip show" that recaps all the previous movies and tries
to make sense of the continuity that it set up
but it doesn't work being that 1-2-3-7 don't mesh with 4-6.

the film starts with a logo "Shadow Entertainment"
which i though? huh? I thought this was a full moon production

anyway the there is once again the return of the familiar theme
and an interesting opening title effect.

but the movie itself is in my view a big waste of time
in the first few minutes I didn't know what the hell is going
on I was all were back at the hotel?
who is this guy? is this peter from 3?
who is this girl who is the Lara Croft wannabe/rip off?
what the hell is going on?

it didn't make much sense. The the current resident of the Hotel
plays these recording for the woman and it is Toulon
recounting the events on the previous movies.
that is where the "clip show" aspect comes in they are like
10min recaps. in case your wondering yes that is the movie.
I fast forwarded passed that stuff being that I already seen it
all and just stopped when there were scenes of the other 2 were
talking. After he goes through 1-3 & 7 the guys says
"but wait there is more!" and pulls out a second tape
of Toulon recounting the events of 4-6 to which
I thought "How could he make a second tape if he is
dead and also give a first hand account of what happened
in 6? he wasn't even in 6?"
so this movie isn't even worth the time I put into watching
it the only good thing that came out of it was you find out
what happens to the boy Peter.

but anyway this movie is probably the worst of the series
this is beyond the laziness of 6 and defines a new standard
for lazy film making.

Puppet Master Part IX - VS. The Demonic Toys (2004)

Now I know this is not an "official" puppet master movie
and not really part of the continuity of the series but the list
I received said this was Part 9 and well this series has shity
continuity so I don't really think it is going to matter to much.

I would have to say that this is one of the worst Christmas
themed movies of all time and I feel sorry for anyone
who was exposed to Puppet Master via this movie.

Basically this stars of all people Corey Feldman (who is a horrible actor in this)
as Robert Toulon, the great-nephew of the Original puppet master Toulon.
who runs Toulon's Doll Hospital (form what I know you get your
toys repaired there) with his daughter Alex.

Basically Robert(Feldman)'s former boss the evil and greedy
Erica Sharpe (Vanessa Angel) wants the secret of Toulon's
magic and gets help from the demon know as Bail
who gives here some Demonic toys to help achieve her goals.

This movie in general wasn't all that bad but it definitely
wasn't great. There were some good stuff in it
such as the make-up for the Demon Bail was pretty good
as well as the puppet effects and animation although the
puppets themselves looked like cheap knock offs.
The eye exploding scene was kind of neat but that was
pretty much about it.

There was alot of other stupid stuff in this like some
of the Dialogue was overly cheese like "Blade's about to get an upgrade!"
its is groan inducing. Also the music was weird
it was Christmas music mixed with something more
suspenseful. It must be one of the worst Christmas themed movies
of all time and I would have to say I'm glad it is officially left
out of the Series.

And Lastly..

Puppet Master Part X - Axis of Evil (1010)

when the movie starts we are treated to a brand new fully
computer generated Full Moon logo which was very nice
Also there is a nice new remix of the original theme
with a really good opening title sequence.

The Movie itself goes back to the past and basically
fills in the missing time after the Puppet master shoots
himself at the beginning of the first film.
which they use footage form and you also find out that
the Black suited men form the first film are in fact
Nazis.

It goes on with a young man who worked at the Hotel
who has befriended Toulon finding the puppets and taking them
home.

The over all movie was pretty good I don't really have to
many complaints other then the acting was a bit cheesy
and that the puppet effects were at times good and at times
not. I also don't think these were the original puppets
used in this film they look similar but I don't think they
are completely the same ones.

there also was a nice Ripley's Believe it or not reference
and the scene with the head drilling was somewhat cool.

But it doesn't explain how they were put back in the trunk
in the Hotel for what was it 40 years? or how the
Japanese woman takes some of the puppets with her if they
appear later in the story?

This was left pretty much open ended so there will
probably be a Puppet Master 11 that explains how everything
gets back so it can continue with the story and fit in with
the other chapters.

All and all this wasn't a bad movie it was better then the
previous few that is for sure.
-----

Now that concludes the entire series of The Puppet Master (thank god!!)

now if you watch them in a different order like watch 1 then 10 then 3
then 6 ect. It does make more sense but that is not how it is presented.
but also its seems 1 puppet is destroyed in one move and then the movie that
take place like 5minutes after the previous ended that puppet is up running around
its seems like they completely erased certain points
of the previous film and that is what screws up the
series. Also there is not much to them they seem very short.
Some of them are just a tiny bit over an hour others are just
and hour and 15minutes or so, while watching them after the 3rd it was all
"we don't need any continuity!" becasue the series if you watch it just 1-10
it doesn't make any sense like the Terminator time line makes more sense then
this, hell even the Tim Burton Planet of the Apes time line makes more sense then
this. But honestly I would have to say mostly the first couple were the best
the other were either just retarded or a cash grab.
